Insider ownership can be one of the most powerful indicators available to small cap investors. Not only does it show a degree of confidence the executives have in their own businesses,but it also providesa form of insurance that the management is acting in the best interest of its shareholders. Significantly low insider ownership is not always a bad thing (take Apple Inc. with its insider ownership of 0.5%), but it is often a powerful motivatorto increase a company’s stock price.
