Abiomed, Inc (NASDAQ: ABMD)
shares shot up 29% to $49.94 on Wednesday after the medical products
manufacturer posted strong third-quarter results and gained marketing approval
for its new heart device, Impella RP. The new device can be put into use
without typical delays. It is designed to improve circulation in patients who
have acute heart failure or other problems affecting the right side of the
heart.
As well,
shares of Exelixis, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXEL)
jumped 15% to $2.04 as the pharmaceutical company announced that its
collaborator Genentech has completed the filing for the combination of
Cobimetinib and Vemurafenib for the treatment of patients with BRAF V600
mutation-positive advanced melanoma.
Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. (NYSE: ETH)
stock, meanwhile, dropped 12% to $27.81 after the Danbury, Connecticut-based company
reported fiscal second-quarter earnings of $10 million. The company said it had
profit of $0.34 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came in
at $0.37 per share. The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The
average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for
earnings of $0.45 a share.
