Blackberry is still making attempts to regain its former position as one of the tech world’s leaders, but will recent acquisitions and rumours of a new device be enough to boost the embattled company’s fortunes? Today on Before the Bell we’re discussing Blackberry’s near-term future. Also, there are signs that the healthcare sector may be cooling off – we look at 5 stocks that may be overbought, and look at the week ahead in Canadian business – here’s what you need to know today:

Rumours about Blackberry’s new device are heating up after leaked images purported to be the unit, dubbed Venice, hit the internet last week. We’ll likely find out in November whether the speculations about the Android-powered phone are true, but the company made a significant step in its rebuilding process on Friday with its US$425 million purchase of Good Technology, who creates secure mobile platforms for business. For more information on the Blackberry Venice, be sure to read this month’s Ubika Research Tech 20 Report. Do you think now is a good time to buy into Blackberry? Let us know your thoughts as we continue to explore tech stocks with our experts.

Today, however, our investment idea looks at 5 healthcare stocks that might be overbought. As our analysts point out in the article, healthcare is one of the best performing sectors over the last three years, but there’s starting to be a pullback in certain stocks in the past few months. Could the red-hot healthcare sector be cooling off? I don’t know that we can say that just yet, but investors are starting to question how long the surge may last, at least according to this Wall Street Journal article. As always, let me know your thoughts.

Coming up this week in business: the Bank of Canada will announce its overnight rate on Wednesday. Will there be changes to the interest rate yet again, or will the recent positive data on jobs and trade be enough to at least hold it steady? Also on Wednesday, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. releases August figures on the state of the housing market in the country. Remember, Toronto and Vancouver are coming off record numbers in July, so it will be interesting to see how the numbers compare.
