According to Bloomberg, about three-quarters of S&P 500 companies have already reported third-quarter financial results and profits have not been great – down 3.1% on a share-weighted basis due to plunging earnings from oil & gas and commodity-related companies. These figures reveal the biggest quarterly drop in earnings since Q3 of 2009, and the second straight period of profit declines.
