Merrimack Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: MACK)
shares surged 59% to $6.99 on volume of more than 29.8 million shares Thursday
after the biopharmaceutical company said that its experimental cancer drug,
when used in combination with two other drugs, improved the overall survival
rate in patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer in a late-stage study.
As well,
shares of Emulex Corporation (NYSE: ELX)
slid 31% to $4.96 on more than 13.2 million shares traded as the hardware and
software solutions provider reported third-quarter financial results that missed
on the revenue side and provided fourth-quarter earnings per share and revenue
guidance that fell short of the analyst consensus estimate.
Weight Watchers International, Inc. (NYSE: WTW),
meanwhile, announced better than expected first-quarter earnings and revenue as
well as provided full-year earnings per share guidance that surpassed the Wall
Street forecast. Weight Watchers stock popped 20% to $23.71.
Finally,
QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK)
shares fell 20% to $3.77 after the fabless semiconductor solutions
provider released its second-quarter earnings guidance that disappointed Wall
Street.
