EMCORE Corporation (NASDAQ: EMKR)
shares surged 25% to $5.37 on volume of more than 8.6 million shares Thursday
after the compound semiconductor-based components provider said it has agreed
to sell its Space Photovoltaics business to an affiliate of private equity firm
Veritas Capital for $150 million in cash.
As well,
shares of Marchex, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCHX)
plunged 46% to $4.07 on more than 10.2 million shares traded as the mobile
advertising technology company announced that it is lowering its 2014
call-driven revenue outlook.
VIVUS, Inc. (NASDAQ: VVUS) and Auxilium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:
AUXL), meanwhile, reported that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
has approved the companies’ STENDRA medication, a faster-acting treatment for
erectile dysfunction. VIVUS stock popped 12% to $4.36 following the
announcement.
Finally,
ProQR Therapeutics (NASDAQ: PRQR)
shares shot up 15% to $14.99 on its first day of trading Thursday. ProQR is a
biopharmaceutical company developing RNA-based therapeutics for the treatment
of severe genetic disorders, with an initial focus on Cystic Fibrosis.
