China Distance Education Holdings Ltd. (NYSE: DL)
shares shot up 19% to $17.74 on Wednesday after the company, which provides
online educational opportunities in China, reported a year-over-year increase
in its 2014 Q4 earnings results. The company reported net income of $13.4
million in its current Q4 compared to $9.1 million during the same period last
year.
As well,
shares of Oplink Communications, Inc.
(NASDAQ: OPLK)
climbed 14% to $24.18 after the company agreed to be acquired by Koch Industries,
Inc. in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $445 million, or about
$24.25 for each share of Oplink common stock.
Allied Nevada Gold Corp. (NYSE: ANV)
stock, meanwhile, sank 27% to $1.49 after Credit Suisse released a bearish
report on gold through the end of 2015. Allied Nevada Gold Corp said that its
best strategy moving forward would be to shorten its gold supplies following a
poor outlook on goldfrom Credit Suisse. Credit Suisse recently set a price
target of $950 on gold through the end of 2015 and said the precious metal’s
recent drop below the $1,180 mark indicates the continuation of a bearish
trend.
