USEC Inc (NYSE: USU), a global energy company engaged in supplying low enriched uranium (LEU) for commercial nuclear power plants, was the top performer in the U.S. diversified mining sector yesterday gaining 34.6% after the company reported that its second-quarter 2014 net loss narrowed to $28.0 million from $40.9 million a year earlier. The stock breached all the key technical resistance levels of 30, 50 and 200 DMAs at $5.55, $4.83 and $5.06 respectively and closed yesterday at $6.15 while recording significant volumes of 8.3 million shares. During the past 5-trading sessions, the stock gained 24.2% with daily average trading volumes of 2.0 million shares, while the stock surged 29% in the past one month with daily average trading volumes of 3.2 million shares.

Shares of RDX Technologies (TSXV: RDX), an energy services and water treatment company engaged in providing water management systems for treatment and storage of contaminated water, as well as refined fuel production and domestic waste water treatment operations, rallied 35.6% Thursday while recording significant volumes of 2.7 million shares after the company announced a contract with Pontus Energy, LLC for the purchase and operation of RDX franchise locations in Ohio, southern Michigan and northern Kentucky. The stock surged yesterday breaking the short term 30-day and 50-day DMA at C$0.28 and C$0.30 yesterday and closed at C$0.31 per share.
