Manufacturing Stocks Rise on Strong PMI Data: Investment Idea of the Day

The U.S. equity indices ended mostly higher yesterday following strong manufacturing data reports from the world’s two largest economies – U.S. and China for the month of May 2014. The Institute for Supply management (ISM) reported that the purchasing managers index (PMI) – a key monthly gauge for the U.S. manufacturing sector, came in at 55.4, up from the earlier reading of 54.9 in April 2014. The Chinese manufacturing index edged up to 50.8 in May from 50.4 in April.

Today we have shortlisted 10 U.S. manufacturing stocks that are likely to register strong growth in 2014. We note that these stocks have recorded share price gains yesterday following the announcement of U.S. manufacturing data for the month of May 2014. Moreover, these stocks have registered strong growth in sales and earnings during 2013 and are expected to continue the growth in 2014. Meanwhile, these stock are trading at relatively low 1-year forward PE multiple compared to industry average and provide strong return on equity. A majority of these stocks have recorded gains during the past three months with daily average trading volumes of above 100,000.
