Eight Sub $3 Stocks Rising Over 100% in the First Quarter of 2014: Investment Idea of the Day

Published:

After registering strong gains during 2013, North American equity indices moved sideways during the first quarter of 2014. The U.S. indices registered marginal gains during the quarter, while the Canadian indices recorded decent gains during the period. However, markets remained mixed during the month of March. During the quarter, Investors remained cautious over Ukraine crisis and the freezing winter storms in the U.S. economy during January and February. As a result, investors moved towards safer investments options such as bonds, dividend-paying stocks and gold. The Fed also voted twice during the quarter to cut back the stimulus program, which now stands at $55 billion a month. Gold fared well during the quarter rising nearly 7% in the first quarter of 2013 after getting slammed in 2013. Looking ahead to the second quarter, investors hope strong economic data and fading geopolitical risks in Ukraine and beyond will help stocks to continue their bull run.

Ubika Research has shortlisted eight stocks trading below $3 which have skyrocketed over 100% during the month of March and the first quarter of 2014 with a significant increase in traded volumes reflecting strong market interest. Average trading volumes of these stocks over the past month are significantly higher than their three months daily average trading volumes. The shortlisted stocks outperformed their respective indices during March 2014, recording strong price gains ranging from 106% to 350% with daily average traded volume in excess of 100,000.
