Exact Sciences Corporation (NASDAQ: EXAS)
shares shot up 36% to $24.60 on volume
of more than 17.2 million shares Friday after it was revealed that Medicare
recommended a higher-than-expected reimbursement rate for the company’s colon
cancer screening test. This is a boost for Exact as it is aiming to
commercialize the test.
As well,
shares of Alpha Pro Tech Ltd. (NYSE: APT)
surged 54% to $7.43 on nearly 38.7 million shares traded, hitting a new 52-week
high this morning. The company, which specializes in the manufacture of
protective equipment (surgical masks, infection control), saw its stock price
pop after news arrived that the first U.S. patient diagnosed with the Ebola
virus expired on Wednesday in the Dallas, TX area.
Manitowoc Company, Inc. (NYSE: MTW)
stock, meanwhile, dropped 13% to $18.76 after the company lowered its forecast for
crane sales for the year. The crane division of the capital goods manufacturing
company will experience a mid-to-high single digit percentage decline from last
year’s numbers.
Finally,
Knowles Corporation (NYSE: KN)
shares sank 7% to $22.46 as the consumer and medical electronics maker lowered
its Q3 revenue guidance.
