StemCells, Inc. (NASDAQ: STEM)
shares surged 33% to $2.09 on volume of more than 31.4 million shares Thursday
after the developer of cell-based therapeutics announced positive interim
results from its Phase I/II clinical trial of the company’s HuCNS-SC human
neural stem cell platform in dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
As well,
shares of Pier 1 Imports, Inc. (NYSE: PIR)
slipped 13% to $15.86 on more than 11.5 million shares traded as the home
furnishings retailer reported first-quarter earnings of $0.16 per diluted
share, missing analyst expectations by $0.04. Revenue for the quarter rose 6.2%
over the previous year to $419.1 million, also falling short of the Wall Street
forecast. As well, the company lowered its guidance for the fiscal year.
Swisher Hygiene Inc. (NASDAQ: SWSH),
meanwhile, announced that it has received a letter from the NASDAQ on June 17, 2014,
noting the company has regained compliance with Listing Rule 5550(a)(2), which
requires it to maintain a minimum closing bid price of $1.00 per share. Swisher
Hygiene stock gained 18% to $4.15.
Finally,
Sky-mobi Limited (NASDAQ: MOBI)
shares climbed 14% to $8.16 as the Chinese mobile application platform provider
reported the sale of its 37.9% equity interest in China-based mobile game
developer Shanghai Fangcun Information Technology Co., Ltd. to Guangdong Alpha
Animation and Culture Co., Ltd.
