BioFuel Energy Corp. (NASDAQ: BIOF)
shares shot up 30% to $7.52 on volume of more than five million shares Wednesday
after the company said it will pay $275 million in cash and common stock to
acquire JBGL, which is involved in the purchase and development of land for
residential use, construction lending, and home building operations.
As well,
shares of Orexigen Therapeutics (NASDAQ: OREX)
slid 15% to $5.81 on more than 20.6 million shares traded as the biopharmaceutical
company reported that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) extended by three
months a review of the company’s experimental weight loss treatment.
Synaptics Inc. (NASDAQ: SYNA),
meanwhile, announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Renesas
SP Drivers, Inc., the sole supplier of display driver chips for Apple’s
iPhone. Synaptics stock popped 29% to $85.78.
Finally,
Northwest Biotherapeutics (NASDAQ: NWBO)
shares jumped 12% to $6.41 after the biotechnology firm reported positive
results from its Phase I/II clinical trial of DCVax-Direct for the treatment of
all types of inoperable solid tumors.
