PTC Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: PTCT)
shares soared 31% to $20.03 on volume of more than 9.9 million shares Friday
after the biopharmaceutical company announced that following its request for
re-examination, the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use of the
European Medicines Agency has adopted a positive opinion regarding the
company’s application for a conditional marketing authorization of Translarna (ataluren)
for the treatment of nonsense mutation Duchenne muscular dystrophy in
ambulatory patients aged five years and older.
As well,
shares of Aeropostale (NYSE: ARO)
sank 25% to $3.41 on more than 22 million shares traded as the specialty
clothing retailer’s second quarter profit outlook fell well short of the
analyst consensus estimate.
Parsley Energy, Inc. (NYSE:
PE), meanwhile, saw its stock price moved up 20% to $22.20 on its first
day of trading Friday. Parsley is an independent oil and natural gas company
focused on the acquisition, development and exploitation of oil and natural gas
reserves in the Permian Basin in West Texas.
Finally,
Aruba Networks (NASDAQ: ARUN)
shares fell 11% to $17.89 after JPMorgan noted that the gross margins for the provider
of next-generation network access solutions for the mobile enterprise market were
weaker than it expected following the release of the company’s third-quarter financial
results.
