Vocus, Inc. (NASDAQ: VOCS)
shares surged 47% to $17.92 on volume of more than 14.2 million shares Monday
after the provider of cloud-based marketing and public relations software said
it has entered into a definitive merger agreement to be acquired by GTCR Valor
Merger Sub, Inc., an affiliate of GTCR LLC, in an all-cash transaction valued
at about $446.5 million, or $18.00 per share.
As well,
shares of World Wrestling Entertainment
Inc. (NYSE:
WWE) slipped 15% to $23.90 on more than 8.9 million shares traded as the
integrated media organization reported 667,287 subscribers for a new
online-video service the company is counting on for growth, which fell short of
the Benchmark Co.’s estimate of at least 800,000.
Agios Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: AGIO),
meanwhile, announced that its blood cancer drug, AG-221, showed “promising
clinical activity.” Agios designed AG-221 to block a mutated protein known
as IDH2, which promotes the growth of cancer cells. The company’s stock popped
28% to $45.35.
Finally,
Idenix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDIX)
shares moved up 12% to $5.81 after the biopharmaceutical company reported continued
progress of its program to develop nucleotide prodrug inhibitors for the
treatment of hepatitis C virus infection.
