A potential new Hemlo gold discovery generated a bit of interest in shares of a gold explorer Thursday. Here’s some small stocks making big moves on Thursday, March 1, 2018 (as of 4 pm EST):

As well, shares of Ballard Power Systems (TSX:BLDP) slipped 14% to $4.15 as the provider of clean energy products said it expects its 2018 revenue to be relatively flat given the “relatively early stage of development in some markets, as well as the uncertainty of timing in contract awards and program deliveries.”

Newalta Corporation (TSX:NAL), meanwhile, reported that it has agreed to merge with Tervita Corporation, a private Alberta-based energy-focused waste and environmental services company. The newly-merged company will be known as Tervita Corporation. Newalta shareholders will be entitled to receive 0.1467 of one common share of the ‘New’ Tervita for each common share of Newalta held. Newalta stock popped 21% to $1.15 following the announcement.

Finally, QMC Quantum Minerals Corp. (TSXV:QMC) shares jumped 34% to $0.71 after the resource junior announced that it has identified a 1100-metre-long lithium anomaly at its 100% owned Irgon Lithium Mine Project in Manitoba that “strikes generally east west.”
