Key Findings for the week:
• Sandspring Resources Ltd (TSXV: SSP) was the top gainer for the week.
The stock rose 45% on recent news (Dec 23, 2013) that it received its first
draw down of US$13.5 million under its streaming agreement with Silver
Wheaton. In Nov 2013, SSP inked a precious metals streaming agreement with
Silver Wheaton under which the latter agreed to pay the former cash consideration
of US$148.5 million plus an ongoing production payment of the lesser of
US$400 and the prevailing market price for 10% of the life of mine payable
gold production from SSP’s Toroparu Project in Guyana S.A.
• After gaining 6.28% last week, the UG 50 index increased further by
4.87% to close at 69.73. The UG index outperformed TSXV Index (2.79%),
Gold (1.95%) and S&P/TSX global gold index (2.34%). The index gained
on the back of rising gold prices and the resultant positive effect on
gold companies.
• The performance of the UG 50 constituent companies was mostly positive
with 40 out of 48 companies managing positive performance for the week.
