Biotech Stock Jumps on Potential Pharma Deal: Today’s Canadian Small Cap Market Movers

Sirona Biochem Corp. (TSXV:
SBM
) shares climbed 19% to $0.16 on Wednesday after the cosmetic ingredient
and drug discovery company announced that its skin lightener compound, SBM-TFC-1067,
has “attracted significant interest up to the level of material transfer
agreements from nine of the top cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies that
dominate the skin care market.”  

As well,
shares of Stingray Digital Group Inc. (TSX:
RAY.A
) gained 16% to $7.25 in its stock market debut Wednesday. The company
completed an initial public offering of an aggregate of 22,400,000 subordinate
voting shares and variable subordinate voting shares at a price of $6.25 per
share, for total gross proceeds of $140 million. Stingray is a business-to-business
multi-platform music and in-store media solutions provider operating on a
global scale, reaching an estimated 110 million Pay-TV subscribers (or
households) in 111 countries. 

Telesta Therapeutics Inc. (TSX:
TST
), meanwhile, reported that the United States Patent and Trademark
Office has issued U.S. Patent No. 9,044,422, which provides intellectual
property (IP) protection for Telesta’s Mycobacterium phlei cell wall-nucleic
acid complex (MCNA) composition of matter. Telesta Therapeutics stock moved up 13%
to $0.345 following the announcement. 

Finally, PhosCan Chemical Corp. (TSX:
FOS
) shares powered 9% higher to $0.31 after the phosphate project
developer announced that its Board of Directors has initiated a strategic
review process to enhance shareholder value, which could include a merger or
business combination transaction.
